Elder Rigby

Yesterday was a big day for our family, as we took Nick to the MTC. I have heard all kinds of stories , like, how heart wrenching, horrible, hardest thing you'll ever do, cry like youve never cried before, and what a nightmare it is.. etc. ....to leave your missionary there. Im sure it is that way for most families, but we had a different experience with ours. First off, I think with Nick being the last of all his friends to go, we were happy for him more than anything! That kid has been BORED OUT OF HIS MIND! He just moped around the house! It was painful for him to be here day in and day out , just waiting and waiting for the 9th of September! It was painful to watch! I had decided in my mind that I was going to make it a positive , exciting day, not a day of dread. I didnt , and still havent allowed myself to think about the negatives .. like missing him, or how long it will be before I see him again. I intend to focus on how much happier he will be keeping busy and moving forward with his life. He has his whole life planned out and he was SO READY to get going! When we got to the upper parking lot of the MTC, the gentleman ushering us in asked where Nick was going to serve, and after we told him said, "wow most of the missionaries that have come today are going to Peru!" That was fun for us and we immediatly met a cool missionary that was waiting in the parking lot with his family too! There were missionaries everywhere we looked , walking to the university, playing soccer, helping unload the drop-offs, and just chilling outside. The one thing we all noticed was they were all smiling, and all of them seemed to be having a blast!! We took pictures and laughed and talked till we had to get back in the car and do the drop-off. When we got to that point a really fun missionary helped us out and got Nicks luggage, visited with us and said Nick is going to have a great time and he will be well cared for! That Elder was from Hawaii , headed to Texas in two weeks. We gave our hugs and kisses good-bye with mimimal tears and off Nick went with a huge smile on his face. As we were pulling out watching all the missionaries Benny said,"Man, I can't wait to go on my mission! This is AWESOME!" We left Provo happy! We are so excited for our Nick! We are so proud of him and know he will be a great tool in Gods hands. I feel blessed that we didnt have a cry-fest..... I think the way things worked out for Nick and our family was meant to be, a blessing, a tender mercy. It was so much better for him to part from us with joy, and seeing us happy and thrilled for him. I believe it was a gift for me and Nick, as we both have depression, and it could have been a really tough thing for us. We are looking forward to the future with our missionary! Just think, one and a half days down already, but hey, whos counting! :)

Miscellaneous

We finally had Nicks Eagle Court of Honor... (a year late!) He really didn't want one, but now that its over he's happy we did and so am I! He built food shelving for the armoury in Logan for his eagle project. Now the next big thing for Nick is his farewell which is this Sunday. Ahhh! I'm nervous for him, and plenty stressed out about the dinner afterward! I'm not a great hostess... I feel really inadequate, but oh well! Kramer came back from Australia on the 11Th and went to the lake with us the following weekend. We spent four days there and had a really great time, even though the weather wasn't that great! We had foot races, put puzzles together, tubed, went to Cafe Sabor for dinner, watched movies, played xbox, shopped, slept, went to Bear Lake West for a breakfast buffet, and watched lightening striking over the lake at night. So fun! Benny started school last Thursday. He has a really tough schedule this year but he's ok with it. He is taking mostly AP and college courses. Yikes! If its too tough this trimester then he will lighten it up for the rest of the year. We have a busy week with finishing up the missionary shopping, Alisons b-day Wednesday and preparing for the farewell. I sure hope everything goes well!

Battles

So I have a great life and Im happy......... but ............ alot of days are battles for me. This week.......battles. It all depends on my depression level. I work really hard at keeping my head up, refocusing my mind, counting my blessings, keeping myself busy, and refusing to let it control me.... but every so often it takes over. Depression is a strange mental illness. I wonder if a person can ever out grow it? :) Ha! Just wishful thinking! Earlier today as I was driving I couldnt control my tears and I tried to hide from other drivers... I was embarrassed...now, how weird is that! As if anyone would even notice! Weird weird. I just didnt want anyone to know I guess, even strangers. Ive talked about my depression before in an earlier blog, I dont remember what I wrote, nor do I care.... I dont want to look it up and make sure Im not repeating myself.... I just know that sometimes writing about it helps... So , welcome to a brief glimpse into my mind...As I was driving along crying off and on, I thought, I should call this person or that person and talk and I will feel better, then , no... I cant talk to anyone I dont have the energy, then I thought, I should go water my flowers because I love my flowers, that should help me feel better, then , no, I dont want to... I should go gather Bret and the boys and go to a movie that will make me feel better, no, I might see someone I know and I cant talk to people right now, I might cry...what I really should do is go read my scriptures, for sure that will make me feel better, ...no.. I dont have the energy, what I really want, is to take a sleeping pill, and sleep till tomorrow..and hope for a better day. So, there you go, thats a peek into about one full minute repeated over and over in my mind when Im not well. Instead of taking a sleeping pill I came home , fixed dinner, watched 'So you think you can dance'. (What a great show, I love it!) I guess I can go to bed now without taking the sleeping pill and see what tomorrow brings. Im planning on having a great day! :)
